At its Jan. 14 meeting, the School Board of the City of Virginia Beach elected Kathleen Brown as chair and Carolyn Weems as vice chair. Brown has served on the School Board for two years and Weems for 22 years.
Lalisha Fitchett, an English teacher at Brandon Middle School, is the 2026 Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) Citywide Teacher of the Year. Superintendent Dr. Donald E. Robertson Jr. made the announcement during a surprise visit to Brandon Middle on Dec. 19.

The Virginia Beach Technical and Career Education Center opened its doors in September 1972 to provide career-training opportunities for students in grades 11 and 12.
Since that time, the Tech Center has maintained focus on career preparation and employability for all of its students. The areas of safety, technical expertise and authentic workplace experiences are the instructional foundation of all 23 credentialed Tech Center programs.
The Tech Center has a dedicated staff that is both highly qualified and highly committed to the success of our students. Through industry-driven curriculum and community partnerships, Tech Center students gain real-world skills to become successful in their chosen fields.
