2025 Citywide Volunteers of the Year

Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) values and promotes active engagement of the community in all our schools. The Office of Family and Community Engagement coordinates many volunteer opportunities for community members to interact and contribute to the academic achievement of our students and the overall continuous improvement of VBCPS.

2025-26 federal grant information presented to Virginia Beach School Board

The Virginia Beach School Board received information about proposed federal grant applications at its May 13 meeting. For the 2025-26 school year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) would receive approximately $21.6 million in formula grant funds through programs authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA).

Plumbing and Heating

About
Are you a mechanical person who has an interest in building things? Check out Plumbing and Heating, a one-year, three credit program that follows Construction Technology where you will learn all of the skills the construction industry is seeking in qualified candidates! You will learn in state-of-the-art lab and even help build a real house that is sold to benefit the Education Foundation! You will have the opportunity to earn your OSHA 10 Certification!

This one year course covers a wide variety of plumbing and heating applications. Students in this class learn about plumbing, piping, residential and commercial plumbing installations, hydronic heating, controls and solar technologies. A part of the course work deals with pipe drafting and plan layout. Graduates of this program are eligible for apprenticeship in the Plumbing and Heating trade as second year apprentices. Students will prepare for the following credentials or certifications: National Association of Home Builders HBI/NAHB- Plumbing Basic; Skills Connect Assessment (SkillsUSA)-Plumbing; and the Workplace Readiness Skills for the Commonwealth Examination.

In addition to going straight to the work force, our graduates have many options after successfully completing their courses! Further your education at a community college, technical school or university.

Internships
All students at the Tech Center have the option to obtain an internship towards the end of their experience here. The philosophy is that there is invaluable knowledge and experience to be gained working side-by-side with a professional in an actual environment.
