Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) values and promotes active engagement of the community in all our schools. The Office of Family and Community Engagement coordinates many volunteer opportunities for community members to interact and contribute to the academic achievement of our students and the overall continuous improvement of VBCPS.
Construction Technology
Classroom, lab and hands-on learning will cover the following: construction site safety, blueprint reading, construction math, construction codes, metal fabrication, and much more! Everyone enrolled in our construction trade program work collectively to build a residential home. Together, you'll learn the specialized skills, industry collaboration and carefully managed timing it takes to build a house from the blueprint stage to testing the doorbell. This real-life application gives you the added advantage of experience with the entire construction process rather than the isolated theory of a singular construction field.
With your construction technology program experience, you will have the fundamental knowledge to participate in construction site carpentry, electrical work and plumbing/HVAC projects. This certificate also provides the foundation you'll need to work toward diplomas in apprenticeship-level careers such as plumbing/HVAC, construction electricity, masonry and carpentry.
Internships
All students at the Tech Center have the option to obtain an internship towards the end of their experience here. The philosophy is that there is invaluable knowledge and experience to be gained working side-by-side with a professional in an actual environment. Below are some of the great internships our students have had, thanks to Construction Technology!
