2025 Citywide Volunteers of the Year

Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) values and promotes active engagement of the community in all our schools. The Office of Family and Community Engagement coordinates many volunteer opportunities for community members to interact and contribute to the academic achievement of our students and the overall continuous improvement of VBCPS.

2025-26 federal grant information presented to Virginia Beach School Board

The Virginia Beach School Board received information about proposed federal grant applications at its May 13 meeting. For the 2025-26 school year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) would receive approximately $21.6 million in formula grant funds through programs authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA).

Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, and Heating (HVAC)

Are you a mechanical person who is interested in how things work? Check out Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, and Heating, a two-year, six credit program, where you will learn many of the skills the heating and cooling industry is seeking in qualified behind-the-scenes candidates! You will learn in a 

real lab, with real equipment, computers and software, and you will even have the opportunity earn the HVAC Excellence Certification, a highly regarded and sought after credential!
This is a two-year course in which the student learns the theory and practical applications of air conditioning, refrigeration and heating equipment servicing. The course covers safety, soldering, brazing, piping, electrical circuits, central air units, window units, ice makers, refrigerators, oil and gas furnaces and heat pumps. Students will prepare for the following credentials or certifications: Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Examinations- Levels I, II, & III, Core and Universal; R410A Reclamation Safety Certification; HVAC Excellence Examinations- Electricity, Basic Refrigeration & Charging, and Air Conditioning; and the Workplace Readiness Skills for the Commonwealth Examination.
 

Right now students in HVAC are working on:
Participating in field trips to HVAC Wholesale Suppliers, Kellam Mechanical, and Mechanical Services Company
Hands-on building with HVAC training equipment
Installing air conditioning and ductwork systems in the Foundation House
 

After the Tech Center: 
Apprenticeships: on-the-job training in several local companies - earn while you learn!
TCC: Certificate, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration; AAS, Engineering and Industrial Technology:
             Electromechanical Controls Technology or Industrial Management


ODU: BS Mechanical Engineering

Internships:
All students at the Tech Center have the option to obtain an internship towards the end of their experience here. The philosophy is that there is invaluable knowledge and experience to be gained working side-by-side with a professional in an actual environment.
