Public Safety

Are you a people person who has an interest in serving your community? Check out Public Safety, a two-year, six credit program, where you will learn all of the core ideals police, fire, and rescue departments are seeking in qualified candidates! You will understand the intellectual and physical challenges that face police, fire, and paramedic personnel. You will even have the opportunity to become EMT-B and CPR for Health Care Professionals certified.

Students in this two year program are taught the core ideals that police and fire departments are seeking in candidates for employment. Through a combination of classroom and practical learning modalities the students will gain insight into the intellectual and physical challenges that face police, fire and paramedical personnel. The students will also have the opportunity to earn college credit. Students will prepare for the following credentials or certifications: First Aide ADD & CPR Certification; OSHA Career Safe Examination; National Academies of Emergency Dispatch- Emergency Telecommunications Examination; National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) Assessment- Criminal Justice; and the Workplace Readiness Skills for the Commonwealth Examination.

Right now students in Public Safety are working on:
Role playing, fingerprinting, crime scene set-up and analysis, they are taking great field trips to the SWAT Team and other facilities, student compete in Skills USA competitions with the chance to win gold medals, and students participate in ride alongs in police cars and other public service vehicles.

All students at the Tech Center have the option to obtain an internship towards the end of their experience here. The philosophy is that there is invaluable knowledge and experience to be gained working side-by-side with a professional in an actual environment.
